Flaming Mamie, SN 42-52632
This was one of the original B-24 H models flown to Italy by Robert Remington and crew. The pilot of Richard Olson’s crew crash-landed a B-24 on June 12 so he was not flying the next day when Remington took over as the pilot on Olson’s crew. The pilot on Olson’s crew, Hugh Sheetz, ended up taking over Remington’s crew and I know he flew quite a number of missions in Flaming Mamie. It was shot down on 8 August 1944 by fighters with another pilot at the controls but most of Robert Remington’s original crew was on it and it is believed everyone survived the war.
